What is your tour about?
Our tour is an immersive group walking tour in South Williamsburg that takes you through the history of Jewish Williamsburg and the life and culture of the Hasidic community that thrives there today.
Where does this tour take place?
In South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City.
Is this tour about Lubavich Hasidim?
No; our tour is about the many sects of Hasidic williamsburg. Lubavich/chabad Hasidim don't have a presence in Williamsburg.
Are you biased for or against the community?
We make every effort to educate without bias; we are not beholden to the community or any cause from the outside. Our only goal is to share with you this incredible NYC world we grew up in.
What is the dress code?
There is no dress code per se, as we are unfortunately unable to bring the group inside synagogues where we would need more conservative clothing. However, it is a good idea to keep in mind the sensitivities of the community to modest clothing. Some stores ask that customers not come barefoot, sleeveless or with shorts. We aim to be respectful.
Can we go inside synagogues?
Unfortunately, we were not able to negotiate access to any of the Williamsburg synagogues. However, we will see many synagogues and discuss the synagogue rituals as we visit the sites.
Can we go shop in Hasidic stores?
Absolutely, time permitting. Businesses such as eateries and Judaica stores will be glad to serve you.
Can we take photographs?
We urge you to take photos with sensitivity and respect the privacy of the people on the streets.
