Monday March 22, 2020 – Morning Update
BAN ON GATHERINGS
The Montreal Police department - SPVM - has announced that they will enforce all Government decrees during this health crisis, in particular they will enforce the ban on any gatherings, indoors or outdoors. A gathering is considered 2 or more persons who are not family living in the same home.
The fine for gatherings can range from $1,000 to $6,000 per person, plus subject to arrest.
At the same time, the police are encouraging citizens who witness any gatherings to call 911 and to report.
TRAVEL BAN - Monday March 23rd 11 a.m.
We would like to remind all community members that the ban on non essential travel at the Canadian and U.S borders are being strictly enforced.
As of now the border on both the Canadian and US sides are closed.
Canadian citizens or permanent residents are being let into Canada, however, non-citizens, including spouses or children are not being permitted through the border. This also applies to anyone who has married in Canada and is in the process of becoming a permanent resident, or if they already have a Quebec Selection Certificate, they are still not being let in to the country.
The US border is also closed and only permitting entry to American citizens, or persons with green cards (work permits are not allowed).
Commercial goods are still being permitted through at this time at both sides of the border.
The Askunim who work with border control have stated that there is NOTHING they can do at this time to overcome these new limits.
PLEASE STAY SAFE, STAY HOME.
